Math Whisperer
Me: ok time for your 20 minutes of playing before bed.
Eli: no I get, like, 144 hours! That would be 3 no 4 days, no wait (he whispers and counts on his fingers for about 40 seconds) – Mommy: it’s 6 days!
Me: Wow! How did you figure that out?
Eli: Easy – Because 24 times 1 is 24, times 2 is 48, times 3 is um 72, times 4 is like 96, times 5 is 120, and times 6 is 144! And there are 24 hours in an, um, day so 144 hours is, like, 6 days… (shrugs as he heads to his desk to do more math)
[I HAVE NOW ENTERED THE TWILIGHT ZONE]
So he spends the next 10 minutes or so at his desk doing some very important project – working with his calculator, writing stuff down, running back and forth to other parts of the apartment, etc. I let him follow his dream and do his “homework” as he likes to call it… then we play.
Later, when I go to get in my bed, I find a note from him! (see below)
